Is There a Weber Family Q With a Thermometer?

One of the biggest regrets of new Weber Family Q owners is realising they could have upgraded to a model with a lid thermometer.

In this article, we will explore the different models of the Weber Family Q BBQ range and what features they offer.

Whether you’re a seasoned grill master or just starting out, we’ll provide the information you need to choose the right one for your needs.

Does the Weber Family Q come with a Thermometer?

The Weber Family Q is one of the most popular gas grills on the market. It’s designed to excel in the indirect (lid-down) cooking style that Webers are known for.

It features two stainless steel burners and enamelled cast iron grills that provide an even heat distribution and make them easier to clean.

However, one thing that the standard Family Q doesn’t have is a lid thermometer. While this feature is common on similar BBQs in this price range, unfortunately, it’s not a feature on the Family Q.

While you can still cook a great steak without the thermometer (Weber provides instructions), many users prefer to be able to keep an eye on the temperature under the hood.

How to get a Thermometer on your Weber Family Q

If you’re keen to have a thermometer on your new Weber Family Q, you essentially have three options.

The first assumes you haven’t yet purchased your BBQ while the second two are suited to people who already have a Weber Family Q.

1. Purchase a Weber Family Q Premium

The Family Q Premium features a range of small upgrades from the original model. We cover these in more detail in the next section, but this is by far the easiest way to get a thermometer on your Weber Family Q.

This model needs to be purchased from a Weber Specialist Dealer or Weber’s Amazon store.

2. Purchase a Weber iGrill 3

The Weber iGrill 3 is an advanced wireless Bluetooth meat thermometer that allows you to monitor the temperature of your meat remotely, with the help of an iOS or Android app.

The thermometer comes with 2 meat probes, and once it reaches the desired temperature you’ve set, an alert will be sent to your phone.

3. Upgrade the lid on your Weber Family Q

If you already have a Family Q and want to upgrade the hood, you can purchase a Premium hood separately and retrofit it to your BBQ.

Unfortunately with this option, you’re going to spend more than if you purchased the Family Q Premium but you’ll miss out on the other upgrades discussed below.

Weber Family Q vs Weber Family Q Premium

These two models are very similar, both with two burners that deliver the same heat output and a cooking area measuring 2400cm².

The key differences between the Weber Q3100 (Standard) and Q3200 (Premium) are as follows:

  • The Q3100 uses a push-button piezo igniter, while the Q3200 is equipped with a premium electronic ignition.
  • The Q3200 has a built-in lid thermometer.
  • The Q3200 has a slightly higher dome.
  • Both models are available in titanium or black, while the Premium model also comes in red.
  • The Q3200 has traditionally been harder to find, as it was only sold through Weber Specialist Dealers and Weber Stores. However, you can now purchase the premium model online from Weber’s Amazon store.

Does the Weber Family Q come with a stand?

Both the Weber Family Q Premium and the Weber Family Q models come with a patio cart stand.

Do you have to cook with the lid down on Weber Q?

Webers are designed to be used with the lid down. This helps to maintain an even temperature throughout the cooking process, retain moisture within the meat, and reduce gas consumption.
